Halloween in LA is more than one night of costumed fun. It's a month-long celebration of all things frightful and terrifying, from haunted hayrides to totally transformed theme parks filled with zombies and horror villains. From family frights to truly terrifying scares, we've wrapped up five of the best Halloween haunts of the season.
Griffith Park Haunted Hayride - As the sun sets on Griffith Park, riders board this haunted hayride which winds through a trail of devilish creatures. This year's theme is "Boogeyman" and ends in a pitch black maze crawling with "maniacs and demons." The little ones can sit out the fright-filled jaunt with a ride on the park's "scary-go-round." The hayride runs from Oct. 2 - Halloween night.
Horror Nights at Universal Studios - Enter the hellish Maze of Madness, a haunted tour through a rotting Victorian labyrinth based on Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film, Crimson Peak. Explore the world of Insidious, outrun zombies from the Walking Dead or stand toe-to-toe with Halloween's Michael Myer's himself.
Ward 13 - This 15-minute walk through the Raymond Hill Sanitarium isn't for the faint of heart. Benefitting the South Pasadena Educational Foundation, guests will find themselves confronting tortuous experiments and insanity-inducing sights all in the name of a good cause. The old school building that hosts this scary adventure is the perfect setting for a night of screams.
Knott's Scary Farm - Thousands of monsters roam the mazes and scare zones at this family-friendly park all month. One of the oldest and most popular Halloween events in the city, this year the park is filled with frightening creatures including zombies, an evil tooth fairy and Southern voodoo madness.
Dark Harbor - Board the cramped quarters of the Queen Mary for a night of spooky fun including a vintage Ferris wheel, fog mazes and monsters. If you're looking for a place to unwind, the R.I.P. Lounge is the best spot to grab a drink and take in the fright-filled surroundings.
